The August heat somehow completely zaps my appetite. It’s hotter than hot and all I want are cold foods like sushi, cucumbers, or ice cream. Mainly just ice cream.

With the dog days of summer in full swing, one of Bentonville’s newest sweet treat spots was calling my name. Dumont Creamery & Cafe, located on NW A Street next to Skylight Cinema, is not only home to dozens (over 40 flavors to be more specific) of ice cream and sorbet flavors–they have coffee, pastries–both sweet and savory, matcha lattes, boba tea, hot chocolate, and other frozen beverage concoctions. What sets this ice cream shop apart is the unique variety of flavors offered. Dumont is a chain originating in India and in addition to serving standard flavors like Mint Chocolate Chip and Strawberry, they have globally-inspired flavors like Kheer, inspired by Indian rice pudding with golden raisins, cashews, almonds, saffron and cinnamon; Hokey Pokey, a New Zealand treat of rich vanilla with crunchy honeycomb; and Italian Mint Basil sorbet, which was insanely refreshing and light on a 100+ degree day.

Ice Cream at Dumont Creamery

As I eyed the case of ice cream, I looked at the kind woman helping me, somewhat helplessly thinking, “There are so. Many. Flavors.” She assured me I could try as many as I wanted. I told her for the purposes of research I’d be trying quite a few. She patiently let me try almost a dozen flavors, so needless to say, they have excellent customer service!

Flavors tried:

  • Raspberry Mascarpone: exactly as it sounds, with rich dairy flavor and swirls of raspberry. Runner-up favorite

  • Ruby Cheese: Red berry cheesecake, spot-on tangy cheesecake flavor

  • Hokey Pokey: Vanilla with honeycomb, nice crunch

  • Mint Basil Sorbet:  by far the most refreshing for a super hot day or something lighter on your palette, dairy free

  • Murder in the Snow: White Chocolate with Strawberry

  • Festive Cake: like German Chocolate, but mostly chocolate ice cream with chocolate cake pieces and icing mixed in

  • Classic Chocolate: more of a dark chocolate

  • Dumont Chocolate: tastes like their hot chocolate, more milk chocolatey

  • Old Fashioned Streusel: delicious, cinnamon, red berries

  • Mango: rich and creamy– not a sorbet

  • Biscoff: exactly like you’d guess, brown sugar and cinnamon with biscoff cookie

  • Kheer: Indian rice pudding, 10/10, definitely my favorite.

Counter at Dumont Creamery

As I was full of ice cream, I didn’t try anything from the pastry case, but they had a variety of sweet treats with a few savory options. Their bestsellers are the High-5 Cake (super chocolatey), the OG Cheesecake, and Molten Lava Cake, and the “Feta Bistro” is a spinach feta pastry if you’re wanting a savory pastry. As previously mentioned, they offer a selection of coffee beverages and can make an affogato from any ice cream flavor. When I was there, they were promoting a suite of ube-flavored drinks, including a particularly delicious-looking milk tea. Dumont’s menu is varied enough that you could easily enjoy it year-round, even when it feels too cold for ice cream (never). They also had a freezer case filled with pints and quarts of your favorite flavors to take home.

Stop by and check out Dumont’s centrally located shop for dessert after dinner downtown or for a pre- or post-movie treat. It’s the perfect stop for decadent flavors you don’t see every day. I’ll definitely be back.
