Two families. Two different starts. One shared sense of adventure.

Bentonville isn’t a place you just visit; it’s a place you move through. On wheels, on foot, with a coffee in hand or a helmet on your head. Here’s how two families spent a full day here. Use their stories as your guide.

Family A: Waking Up in the Woods

The first sound is the sizzle of breakfast on the camp stove. The kids are still zipped in their sleeping bags when the smell of coffee drifts through the trees. This is Coler Mountain Bike Preserve, where your front door is a tent flap (or the van door) and the trailhead is a few steps away.

By mid‑morning, the family is rolling. Tires hum over dirt, then clatter across wooden bridges. They pause at either parking lots or Airship Coffee to refill bottles, then dive back into the flow. It’s not a race; it’s a rhythm—ride, laugh, repeat. From here, head to The Quiver at Osage Park for a fun round of archery with the family. Then enjoy a scenic stroll along the boardwalk as the wetlands shimmer in the sunlight.

Midday reset: The Momentary + Onyx

When hunger calls, they trade helmets for art. The Momentary is just a short ride away, and Onyx Coffee Lab inside feels like a reward: iced lattes for the grown‑ups, pastries for the kids. After snacks, they wander the galleries, letting curiosity set the pace.

Afternoon: 8th Street Market loop

At 8th Street Market, the kids scramble up the outdoor boulder while parents browse Hillfolk for crafts and Two Friends Bookstore for something to read back at camp. Dinner is Yeyo’s—bright flavors, quick service, and plates that disappear fast. And because no Bentonville day ends without dessert, they finish at Markham & Fitz, spoons diving into chocolate ice cream as the day closes.

Family B: A Downtown Day that Keeps Rolling

At the Motto by Hilton, sunlight filters through the windows as Family B lingers over coffee and plans their route. No rush today, they’re steps from everything.

First stop: A walk to Phat Tire Bike Shop. The staff fits them for rentals, checks tire pressure, and suggests a few accessories. Dad brought his own bike, which he had checked over at the Phat Tire retail store just a few blocks away. Soon, they’re pedaling toward the All-American Trail System in Slaughter Pen. The path winds through trees, past art installations, and over bridges. It’s easy to forget you’re in the middle of town.

Midday break: Airship Pumphouse

Coast into Airship Pumphouse for caffeine and snacks. Bikes lean against the deck while the family refuels with cold brews and pastries. Then it’s on to the Scott Family Amazeum, where the kids dive into hands‑on exhibits while parents catch their breath.

Evening: Art and architecture at Crystal Bridges

The afternoon shifts to art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. They wander through glass halls and along forest trails, pausing at sculptures and water views. As the sun sets, head out to the North Forest to explore Time Loop by Klip Collective: A Forest Light Experience. Backed by a custom soundtrack and open during the Ozarks' most beautiful season, Time Loop truly offers an outdoor experience unlike any in Northwest Arkansas.

Make the Most Out of Your Day

Practical Tips

  • Parking: Coler has parking at the campground, while Motto offers valet parking. No need to drive anywhere in town, you'll find bike racks everywhere!
  • Bike rentals: Reserve ahead at Phat Tire on busy weekends. Explore our Bicycle Resources page for more rental options.
  • Timing: Plan to start rides earlier on shorter fall days, as most attractions close between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. For the most accurate hours, check each attraction’s website before you go

  • What to bring: Refillable bottles, flat-fix kit, sunscreen, and a light jacket in shoulder seasons.
