Artist: BOB DOSTER
Flight belongs to a series of large-scale steel sculptures depicting the abstract form of airplanes, repeated in an upward trajectory. The individual airplane shapes are welded together at the tip of the wings: the topmost airplane appears to defy gravity. Bob Doster has developed this series of sculptures since graduate school, inspired by his experience as a young man learning to fly gliders.
A sculptor who has been creating and teaching for more than fifty years, Doster specializes in outdoor metal sculpture, often with repeated forms inspired by the natural world. A teaching artist based in Lancaster, South Carolina, he has worked with thousands of students to develop their skills in working with metal.
